I realized when I watched this film how little I
actually knew about the history of film. There are so many movies about the
history of society and people, but so few movies about the history of the art
of film itself. In this "Odyssey", they go into great detail about
the inventions that led to the development of film as a business and art:
George Eastman inventing film on a role, The Lumiere brothers inventing the
projector, and the date of the first public movie. They broke it up into time
periods, starting with film as a side show, then technologies that transformed
the movies into a business, and ending with how a single person can influence
the development of modern culture: the movie star.
I really enjoyed this movie and learned a lot of
really interesting information about the film business. I never noticed how
much science actually went into making movies. All of the inventions that, at
first, didn't seem like much. But over time, they transformed modern society. I
would love to learn more about the history of film and I would recommend this
film in the future.
